Like every toxic relationship, shame has been working overtime to control your life and leave you empty. Shame doesn’t want to draw attention to the truth of its presence. Shame doesn’t want you to know it either leaves you empty within, empty without, or both at the same time.
The truth about shame is this: Shame is destroying your life from the moment you get up to the moment you lie down. Shame doesn’t care about any of your successes because it motivates you from a perpetual state of lack, which means you are eternally insecure and easily threatened. Which may also mean you have trouble managing your anger. Don’t direct the anger at other people? Constantly directing anger at yourself still counts as difficulty managing anger because you’re a “people” too!
Shame is leading to a cycle of self-sabotage, isolation, binging behaviors, and relationship difficulties.
Shame is so destructive because it brings all of these things to your awareness, but because you’re feeling
Stuck
Hopeless
Afraid
Malaise
Exasperated —
— You have grown uncomfortably comfortable with shame having a place in your life. Shame is slowly killing you by desecrating your hopes, your dreams, your present, your future, your relationships, your confidence, your sleep, your career, and your identity.
This is your moment. This second counts. It’s time to call out the destructive rules in your life in order to help you build yourself back up in truth spoken in love. Let’s not waste another day. We can intentionally make a decision right now, in this second, before the moment of conviction passes, to serve a cause greater than the destructive power of shame. Be mindful (self-aware) of how much shame (self-loathing) is playing a role in your life and what it’s motivating you to do. Every time you feed shame and self-loathing, you lose quality and quantity of life.
You are valuable. You are needed. You are loved. You made it through everything and you’re still here.
